Kibune, Japan

This is an amazing picture from a small town outside of Kyoto, called Kibune. It is a small town in a forested valley north of Kyoto. It is famous for the Kibune Shrine which is the home of the god of water and rain and believed to be the protector of those at sea. In the picture is a Kawadoko, which is set up between June and September, typically over the Kamogawa River. The tables for the restaurants sit just inches above the fast flowing water. It’s it designed to help beat the summer heat but not only does it do that, it makes for one amazing scene. I can only imagine how cool that must be sitting over the water in the old city of Kibune, in the forest outside of Kyoto, enjoying a meal. Sounds pretty amazing to me.

If I decided on Osaka/Kyoto, this would be something to keep in mind!

Remembering Robin Williams

Embedded image permalink

It’s been a couple days since the tragic news of Robin Williams was reported. On that day, we lost one of the funniest people around. Williams was a comedic legend, from SNL, to the big screen, and to his stand up comedy routines, no one could match his wit and humor. He played so many roles, some funny, some tragic, and some dark, but all of them were incredible.

Williams brought laughter and joy to millions but his inner demons caught up to him. He had battle depression and alcoholism before and tragically he took his life at just the age of 63. I am still sad today and have been watching his stand up routines the past few nights, just remembering how amazing he truly was.

This number has been put out there before so I wanted to throw it on the blog, its the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (US) 1-800-273-8255. I just wanted to put it on the blog just to have it there. If some how if someone saw this number on the blog and it did some good, then its worth it.

New Pentatonix video is crazy good

PTX came out with this a little while ago and I wanted to post a reaction to it and simply, it’s amazing as always! Love Again is an original song from PTX and as always, its a crazy mixture of music, bass, beatboxing, and the video self is crazy. It’s very familiar to their Daft Punk melody song with the make-up and crazy special effects and of course the music is just awesome.

PTX announced last week that they are releasing PTX Volume III in October but they are going to do a pre-sale on Tuesday! They are also about to create another Christmas album as well, so I can’t wait for that as well. I haven’t bought a physical album in a long time but I will tell you this, I am buying this one to support PTX and to get the new music even faster. They are one of my favorite groups and they continue to get better every day!!

9 Hour Capsule Hotels in Japan

I came across this article today on Huffington Post about 9 hour capsule hotels in Japan and I must say, I love the idea! The hotels are a simple concept, a 9 hour stay to help travelers to re-charge on their trips and at an effective cost. The hotels that have popped up in Kyoto are just $19 (USD) for a 9 hour stay, or even less if you rent them out by the hour, and some near Tokyo (Narita airport) are about $38 USD. Continue reading

How to figure Tokyo vs. Osaka

So as I said before a few blogs ago, I am still debating between Tokyo and Osaka. Both cities are amazing, both have their pros and cons and I’m still trying to figure out the winner of which city I’ll visit. So I’ve decided I’ll approach the decision (hello Lebron) at a different angle will create two lists of pros and cons of each city.

I’ll list out all the pros and cons for each city then put them side by side and see which one is the best deal and real winner. No matter which one I pick, I will be leaving something awesome out. If I pick Tokyo I’ll miss out on the temples and charm of Kyoto (along with Osaka). If I pick Osaka/Kyoto, I’ll miss out on Tokyo Tower, Akihabara, and other places like that. It won’t be easy and will probably take some time to map everything for both sides but it will be worth it. Let’s hope I make the right pick!
