Shinkansen hits 50 years old

From the AP – Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Shinkansen, Japan’s bullet train. The train travels at speeds over 150 mph and can take travelers from Tokyo to Osaka in just under 2 hours. The project, which started after WWII, has had its ups and downs over the years but stands as a great success and a huge engineering feet.

Japan is working on a new Shinkansen that have speeds that are suppose to reach over 250 mph and could make the trip from Tokyo to Osaka even quicker! It is truly amazing how fast these trains are able to move. The fastest train in the US reaches 105 mph, which is slow compared to how fast and reliable the bullet trains are. Maybe one day I’ll get a chance to be a passenger onboard one of them.
