Per report: Update on two USF offensive lineman

Per Joey Knight (Tampa Bay Times) – Joey Knight reported the statues of two offensive linemen as the team took the field for its first practice of the spring. Reilly Gibbons won’t be eligible for 2016 and redshirt freshman Zach Hudson is no longer with the team.

Let’s start with Gibbons, a member of the 2015 recruiting class, won’t be eligible until 2016. He can work and practice with the team, but can’t take the field this fall.

Gibbons was originally at Stanford, but transferred back to USF (added to the recruiting class). The debate if he would be eligible had been going on for a while with the NCAA and now it appears we won’t get to see the talented tackle this fall. He can practice and work out with the team, which is great, but not having him available to play this year isn’t so great (there are open jobs on that offensive line). The other news, which was a little more shocking, was the announcement that redshirt freshman Zach Hudson was no longer part of the team.

The former 3-star recruit out of Sickles HS missed all of last year after having surgery to repair a torn left labrum. At 6’5″ 302 lbs., Hudson had ideal size for the tackle position and would have been in contention for playing time, but per Knight’s tweet, it seems Hudson is done with football overall.

This is the first day of practice for the team and there will be many more reports as the Bulls begin preparing for the 2015 season.
