Bleach Captain Count Down: Captain Byakuya Kuchiki

We are now up to the number two captain on my list and it is one of the most beloved captains and one of the best in all of Soul Society, Captain Byakuya Kuchiki. He is a cold, calculated and shows no love to anyone, not even his own family, but he is still one of the best.

Meet the Captain of Squad 6, Byakuya Kuchiki, and 28th head of the Kuchiki clan, one of the 4 Noble Clans of all of Soul Society. Captain Kuchiki is a very disciplined man that stands by the laws of Soul Society and will see justice is done and carried out, no matter what the cost is. He does both for his wealthy royal family but more for Soul Society and its code of laws it stands for.

As a person, he comes off as very cold and proud, often believing he is above people. He demands respect from everyone and usually gets it, except for Ichigo who refers to him by his first name, which angers him to no end. Because he follows the law to the letter, he often shows no mercy even when his own sister was set to be executed. He was going allow Rukia to be killed, but when defeated he did agree that it wouldn’t have been right.

As a fighter, they don’t come much better than Captain Kuchiki. He maintains the calm composure, but he is deadly and precise with all of his abilities. His zanpakuto, Senbonzakura, stands for 1000 cherry blossoms, is a beautiful weapon, but not be receiving it. His swords separates into a 1000 blossoms that surround, chase, and slash anything that they touch. They also can defend him at his will, making his defense perfect. His bankai is even better, bringing in thousands of blades and abandoning his defense. It allows him to draw a blade from anywhere and using speed, he can destroy anything close to him. He has used just a few times and each time, no one is left standing. He is fun to watch.

Captain Kuchiki is a unique favorite of mine. Aside from he is a bad ass (pardon the language), Byakuya personifies a lot of the Japanese traditions and ways of the past. His manners, the way he carries himself and his following of codes, laws, and high morals are what Japanese tradition is based on. The Japanese are very disciplined, follow the laws and typically have a very refined approach to everything in life, from opening a door to greeting someone, it all follows a way that shows respect in every form. Captain Kuchiki follows and displays all of these traditions and ways.
