It’s hard to believe it’s been 12 years since Florida was hit by that incredible wave of four hurricanes in 2004. Our sunny home state has enjoyed the calm, but there appears to be a system developing out there that could end that streak.Invest-99 is a tropical storm that is rumbling towards the Caribbean and most of the models having it aimed right at Florida. The system is expected to develop by this weekend and Florida could be facing a bad storm, which brings me back to 2004. I remember that year because it was a tough one with so many storms hitting Florida. I remember going a week without power (no AC, in the Florida heat, not fun). Cleaning up debris all day long. The long lines for gas and gas stations simply running out of gas. It was a bad time and one I’m sure many across the state do not want to experience again.
So with that all said, this new system could be something we all should pay attention to over the next few days as it gets closer to land develops more. It would probably be a good idea to check on supplies, get an extra case of water, and make sure those batteries that you haven’t used in a long time are still working, just in case.
I mean, Tampa can’t handle a simple thunder storm without flooding half of its streets, so I don’t want to imagine what a storm could really do to the Bay area.
