Number two on the list is a well known one that was part of nearly everyone’s childhood growing up in my generation. We all wanted our hair to turn yellow, fly around and blast lasers out of our hands. Welcome, to DBZ.
#2 Dragon Ball Z
From 2001 to 2010, the DBZ series aired everyone afternoon on Cartoon Network’s Toonami variety show and was a great success. The story followed the top fighters of earth as they battled countless enemies, both from space and some right at home. The fighters all had abilities to shoot laser or energy out of their hands, could fly, and engaged in some pretty epic battles throughout the course of the show’s history. Everyone wanted to go Super Saiyan back in the day and why not.
Characters like Goku, Vegeta, Trunks, and others all contributed to a very in-depth story line that matured over time. The battles were always intense and the stakes were always high. Usually the earth was on the brink of destruction, but these fighters always saved the day somehow, even with the odds stacked against them.
One of my favorite episodes is the first appearance of Trunks in the series. He arrives to await Goku’s return to earth. At that time the enemy Frieza appears and Trunks is forced to deal with him one on one. It was on of the many epic moments in the entire series. I mean, he owns this fight so fast, it’s just so much fun to watch.
DBZ is a well known anime series and is still going strong together (although in another series title, but same characters). It has sold a ton of merchandise, spawned an incredible abridged series (Team Four Star is great), and will always be on of the best series around.
