Next on the countdown is one of my favorite battle games from the entire console’s history. I mean, tanks, weapons, and just all out war around the world, what more could you ask for?
#6 – BattleTanx: Global Assault
Ah, BattleTanx, talk about a classic here. Launched in 1999 as the sequel to BattleTanx, Global Assault continues the story of Griffin against Cassandra as she steals his son and continues to wage war across the world. I’ll be honest though, when I played this game as a kid, I really didn’t care about the plot of the game (or really didn’t understand the gangs and factions you could fight with or against), I just wanted to run with the tanks and blow things up.
Tanks like the Goliath, Abrahams, and my favorite the Rattler tank (small, fast tank with the gattling gun, just a fun thing to run around with) were all available depending on what kind of combat you liked. While the overall game was fun, playing multiplayer with all of these unique tanks was way more fun, even playing capture the flag with tanks while trashing talking friends. One of the most insane weapons in the game was the ability to use a nuke in the game and destroying everything. I remember launching the nuke and having to run away like hell to take cover, but would always would take damage. The game was fun because of the unique weapons, tanks, gangs of fighters to deal with, and the unique music that was all part of the presentation.
